The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 237 points (1.8%) to close at 12,743, the S&P 500 Index fell 33 points (2.3%) to 1,407, and the Nasdaq Composite declined 56 points (2.1%) to 2,541. Crude oil finished down $1.08 to $97.10 per barrel, and gold ended $2.90 lower at $821.80 per ounce.
