ISM Manufacturing Index Drops To 47.7

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 221 points (1.7%) to close at 13,044, the S&P 500 Index lost 21 points (1.4%) to 1,447, and the Nasdaq Composite declined 43 points (1.6%) to 2,610. On moderate volume, 1.4 billion shares were traded on the NYSE, and 2.1 billion shares were traded on the Nasdaq. Crude oil jumped $3.44 to $99.42 per barrel, wholesale gasoline rose $0.08 to $2.57 per gallon, and gold ended at a new-closing high, rising $22.90 to $857.80 per ounce.
