The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 307 points (2.5%) to close at 12,159, the S&P 500 Index lost 40 points (2.9%) to 1,333, and the Nasdaq Composite declined 48 points (2.0%) to 2,347. Crude oil finished down $0.71 to $90.13 per barrel, and gold ended down $3.70 at $878.30 per ounce.
