The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 172 points (1.4%) to close at 12,778, the S&P 500 Index rose 15 points (1.1%) to 1,416, and the Nasdaq Composite advanced 38 points (1.6%) to 2,478. Crude oil finished up $1.41 to $94.10 per barrel, and gold ended $9.20 higher at $906.70 per ounce.
