Consumer Confidence Fell, Stocks Finish Mixed

The Conference Board reported that the consumer confidence index fell from an upwardly revised 76.4 in February to 64.5 in March, far short of estimate of a decline to 73.5. Expectations fell from 57.9 to 47.9, which is the lowest level in 35 years. Details from Bloomberg...

The Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 16 points (0.1%) to close at 12,533, the S&P 500 Index rose 3 points (0.2%) to 1,353, and the Nasdaq Composite finished up 14 points (0.6%) to 2,341. Crude oil gained $0.36 to $101.22 per barrel, and gold ended up $20.20 at $938.90 per ounce.
