The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 215 points (1.8%) to 12,040, the S&P 500 Index slid 29 points (2.2%) to an 18-month low of 1,304, and the Nasdaq Composite lost 52 points (2.3%) to a 17-month low of 2,221. Crude oil finished up $0.95 to $105.47 per barrel, and gold fell $11.40 to $977.10 per ounce.
