Stocks Fall On Surge In Crude Oil Price & Spike In Unemployment Rate

The Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 395 points (3.1%) to close at 12,210, the S&P 500 Index fell 43 points (3.1%) to 1,361, and the Nasdaq Composite closed down 75 points (3.0%) to 2,475. Crude oil finished up $10.75 to a record $138.54 per barrel, and gold ended up $23.60 at $895.40 per ounce. For the week, the DJIA closed 3.4% lower, the S&P 500 Index lost 2.8%, and the Nasdaq Composite fell 1.9%.
