Dow Jones Industrial Average Soared 936 Points

Stocks put together the biggest one-day point rally ever, closing at session highs and snapping an eight-day losing streak after European central banks and governments implemented new plans designed to prevent the collapse of major financial institutions, alleviate the pressures in the credit markets, and restore confidence.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average soared 936 points (11.0%) to close at 9,388, the S&P 500 Index jumped 104 points (11.6%) to 1,004, and the Nasdaq Composite gained 195 points (11.8%) to 1,844. Crude oil increased $3.49 to $81.19 per barrel, and gold ended down $16.50 at $842.50 per ounce.
