The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 401 points (4.7%) to close at 8,979, the S&P 500 Index advanced 39 points (4.3%) to 946, and the Nasdaq Composite jumped 89 points (5.5%) to 1,718. Crude oil fell $4.69 to $69.85 per barrel, and gold ended down $31.80 at $807.20 per ounce.
