Stocks Plunge On Fears Over Global Credit Crisis

Stocks plunged as global central banks aggressively intervened to try to restore lending confidence.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 370 points (3.6%) to close at 9,956, the S&P 500 Index fell 42 points (3.9%) to 1,057, and the Nasdaq Composite dropped 84 points (4.3%) to 1,863. Crude oil fell $6.07 to $87.81 per barrel, and gold gained $27.10 to $860.30 per ounce.
