Major Indices Close Higher Despite Bleak Labor Report

The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 259 points (3.1%) to close at 8,635, the S&P 500 Index rose 31 points (3.7%) to 897, and the Nasdaq Composite advanced 63 points (4.4%) to 1,536. Crude oil fell $2.86 to $40.81 per barrel, and gold fell $8.96 to $758.05 per ounce. For the week, the DJIA fell 2.1%, the S&P 500 Index was down 2.2%, and the Nasdaq Composite decreased 1.7%.
