Pending home sales for October fell 0.7%, below the forecast of a 3.0% decline, while September’s drop was revised slightly higher.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 243 points (2.7%) to close at 8,691, the S&P 500 Index declined 21 points (2.3%) to 889, while the Nasdaq Composite lost 24 points (1.6%) to close at 1,547. Crude oil fell $1.64 to $42.07 per barrel, and gold ended up $7.50 at $776.60 per ounce.
