The Dow Jones Industrial Average advanced 100 points (0.7%) to close at 13,878, the S&P 500 Index gained 8 points (0.5%) to 1,525, and the Nasdaq Composite rose 16 points (0.6%) to 2,699. Crude oil rose $0.77 to $80.30 per barrel, and gold ended down $3.50 at $728.50 per ounce.
