The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 211 points (1.6%) to close at 12,799, the S&P 500 Index fell 23 points (1.6%) to 1,417, and the Nasdaq Composite declined 35 points (1.3%) to 2,562. Crude oil finished down $0.74 to $97.29 per barrel, and gold ended $7.20 higher at $798.60 per ounce.
