Stocks Closed Higher On Rate Cut Expectations

New home sales dropped 4.7% in December to 604,000, the lowest in nearly 13 years. Sales have fallen in ten of the past twelve months and remain in a downtrend. Details from Bloomberg...

The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 177 points (1.5%) to close at 12,384, the S&P 500 Index rose 23 points (1.8%) to 1,354, and the Nasdaq Composite advanced 24 points (1.0%) to 2,350. Crude oil finished up $0.28 to $90.99 per barrel, and gold surged $18.40 at $929.10 per ounce.
