May ISM Manufacturing Index Rose To 49.6

Manufacturing remains sluggish, the ISM Manufacturing Index rose from 48.6 in April to 49.6 in May, above the estimate of 48.5. New orders improved slightly, while prices paid continue to rise, moving from 84.5 to 87.0. The overall index has been below 50 for five of the past six months.
Construction spending fell 0.4% in April, above the estimate of a 0.6% decline.
