The Dow Jones Industrial Average advanced 40 points (0.3%) to close at 11,656, the S&P 500 Index advanced 4 points (0.3%) at 1,289, and the Nasdaq Composite jumped 29 points (1.2%) to 2,378. Crude oil lost $0.59 to $118.58 per barrel, and gold gained $0.90 at $879.50 per ounce.
