Energy & Material Issues Lead Stocks Lower, Focus On Global Economic Slowdown

The Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 514 points (5.7%) to close at 8,519, the S&P 500 Index fell 58 points (6.1%) to 897, and the Nasdaq Composite dropped 81 points (4.8%) to 1,616. Crude oil fell $5.43 to $66.75 per barrel, and gold ended down $40.00 at $728.00 per ounce.
