The Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 232 points (2.5%) to close at 9,034, the S&P 500 Index fell 30 points (3.1%) to 955, and the Nasdaq Composite tumbled 73 points (4.1%) to 1,697. Crude oil fell $3.36 to $70.89 per barrel, and gold ended down $16.30 at $773.70 per ounce.
